About Optimus Gen 2
Optimus Gen 2 is Tesla's second-generation humanoid robot, leveraging the company's massive AI and manufacturing expertise from electric vehicles and Full Self-Driving development. The neural network architecture is directly derived from Tesla's FSD system.
At 57kg with 40 DOF, Optimus Gen 2 is significantly lighter and more capable than its predecessor. Tesla's ambition is for Optimus to handle repetitive, dangerous, or boring tasks in its own Gigafactories before expanding to broader commercial availability.
Elon Musk has stated that Optimus could become 'more significant than the car business over time,' projecting a future where humanoid robots are as common as cars. Gen 2 represents a major step toward that vision.
